If you have a sewing pattern that you will use often, transfer the pattern and all the markings to non-fusible lightweight interfacing. It will last a long time.

To thread a needle easily, coat the thread with beeswax or a little wax from a crayon or a candle and it will slide right in the hole.

Use a fabric softener sheet to keep your thread from tangling. Before you start to sew, rub a dryer sheet along the thread - you'll find it much easier to work with.

Use a small magnet for easy pickup when you drop pins and needles.

To sharpen a needle or straight pin, rub against an emery board.

When threading ribbon or elastic thru a casing, attach a safety pin to one end (be sure to close the safety pin). The pin will be easier to push through the casing.
